Legislation on tractors and trailers in Europe

Trailers constitute a particular challenge when it comes to handling international claims, as legislation concerning their insurance cover and registration often sensibly diverge in the countries of the 46 members of the Council of Bureaux (CoB). Harmonisation attempts undertaken within the EU always failed until now.

In order to obtain an overview over the different systems, the CoB conducted a survey in collaboration with the Comité Européen des Assureurs (CEA) during the year 2005.

The summary of this extensive survey can be consulted below. It gives a detailed overview over the different systems.
